Ink20 Closeout Show
On Wednesday November 4th, 2020 Mila Lynn hosted an Art Show in Downtown Lansing with Rapper/Producer Torrey Gray. They held their event at Soul Nutrition which was the home of their Inktober 2020 Campaign.
During the entire month of October the duo created new content every day based on the prompts Jake Parker released on his Inktober list. Mila, a visual artist, crafted one-of-a-kind Ink sketches, while Torrey produced a new 1-2 minute song for each time lapse released on Instagram. Every night the art was posted for sale for $100 at 8pm on Mila’s Instagram page. The first follower to comment ‘SOLD” became the owner. Four nights in a row pieces sold in less than a minute. Throughout the month 23 of the 31 pieces were sold during the 8pm release. The rest were auctioned off at the event, with the highest bid at $255.
The event safely brought together Lansing’s Community in the middle of the Covid-19 Pandemic, and offered an online streaming option with viewers in Michigan, Ohio, Arizona, Florida, and more. Less than an hour after ending the stream had 600 views. This offered an amazing platform to showcase Lansing’s talented performing artists. Torrey Gray opened the show with his performance of “Dig,” the song created from the Day 24 prompt.
The show hosted a variety of performing artists from the Greater Lansing area accompanied by a couple of guests from Metro Detroit. Original pieces from Mikey Austin were performed backed by Austin Tipton on the keyboard, Drummer -Deon Gladney, and Dennis Johnson playing bass. A smooth display by School of Rocks very own vocalist and pianist Sarah Wallace alongside Jordan Lopez on the box drum and trumpet followed after.
Mila also held an auction of the 8 remaining INKTOBER pieces. The auction was full of excitement and at one point became extremely competitive as participants battled over top bid. All of the remaining pieces were sold during the auction, except Number 11. “Disgusting” which was later purchased during Mila’s annual trip to Miami.
Closing up the second half of the show, Wil Pruitt playing guitar, performed songs from his own catalog. Followed by Detroit’s very own Bryce the Third who put together songs from recent projects. The final artist to perform was Torrey Gray. He headlined the show accompanied by local dancer, Scorpion, reflecting on pieces created throughout the Inktober Campaign.
To wind down the show there was a second auction held to sell pieces created by four local featured artists that followed Mila’s Inktober 32 Prompt, Open. Artists included MSU student, Autumn Hopkins, Ryan Holmes, Melina Brann, and Sarah Sanders the owner of Contrasted Content. More information on all performers and visual artists is available via the Artist Bio button.
Torrey Gray and Mila Lynn raffled off $200 of their earnings to give to another artist pursuing their passions. The winner was Wellington Reyes, a Tampa based artist who also participated in the Inktober Challenge by creating baseball themed artwork for each prompt.
