An Affirmation to Greatness
What makes you great?
Style?
Skill?
Status?
I’ve learned that as you get older the significance of that question is determined by WHO YOU ASK. Not what you ask. I set 4 alarms everyday, snooze them for an hour and somehow still get up in time to be great. I walk and catch the bus to a job where I make minimum wage, and as I feel the cars rush past I can still feel my greatness.
Greatness is the ability to dream. Its the follow-thru to then manifest the dream. Greatness is endurance. It’s keeping your hunger alive even when the road is longer than you planned. Greatness is humility. It’s knowing that whether I continue to purchase bus passes or ride around in the newest Ferrari, I am still the same and worth the same. It is about developing your mind and growing in your body, not developing your body and growing your head.
It’s something we’re all capable of…
Somehow we all convinced ourselves greatness is reserved for a select few. We stopped working, hustling, grinding. We forgot how to dream. And those dreams are what give us the vision necessary to achieve greatness.
The reality of achieving that greatness is a road less traveled though. Mentally, You are in constant competition with a false opponent. They will always wake up earlier than you, always dress better, always get the promotion, their always 2 steps ahead. I used to be afraid of flying, until I realized that plane was leaving whether I was on it or not. And that’s how life is.... forever fleeting..... with or without you.
I’ve left my family behind, I’ve moved to a place where I knew no one, I’ve been counting my last dollars.
I’ve cried... and those tears were the loneliest tears I’ve ever had fall. But I want something different, so I have to live different. I have to challenge myself.
I’m throwing a show in Tampa, where I don’t know anyone. They’ve told me to start small. “No one will come. You need to build a name”. They told me people in Tampa don’t buy art.
And you’re probably wondering who “THEY” are. Doubters, underachievers, Les Misérables, sometimes sisters, friends, mentors.... those voices are familiar to us all. Me... I’ve heard them before every great success. And I’m not letting them tell me what they think is possible. I manifest my own shit!
I can be successful and achieve greatness. In my eyes greatness is being you to the 10th degree. Its being plagued with your own individualism. Once you know who you are its not difficult to be that better than anyone else. And that’s what makes you great.
So if you’re tired of other people defining your greatness, DECIDE TODAY to get up and show the “voices” they were wrong.
